GuruAbhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan ditched the premiere of their film Guru in Cannes, says Mumbai Mirror, leaving director Mani Ratnam high and dry.

Despite the fact that Ratnam repeatedly requested them to be present for the event, the newly-married couple said they had other plans and were flying out the same day.

Other cast members walked the red carpet and attended the press conference at the festival. The lead pair was conspicuously absent at all the events, says a source from Cannes.

Aflac Inc. is known in the United States mostly for its noisy duck. The supplemental insurance provider collects only around one-fourth of its revenue in the U.S.

But the duck really stands for something in Japan, where Aflac is the largest insurer in terms of individual policies. Aflac makes about 75 percent of its revenue there.

But Aflac Japan was hit by problems last year when regulators there decided to investigate how well insurers paid off on claims.

Last month the Japanese Financial Services Agency sanctioned 10 non-life insurers for non-payment of valid claims of the types of policies that Aflac specializes in, typically supplemental medical products.

Spears, who is also said to be penning a tell-all book, was spotted walking out of Millennium Dance Studio with 19-month-old son Sean Preston, carried by her cousin, Allie. Her other son, Jayden James, meanwhile, was transported by a security officer in a baby carrier covered by blankets.

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT — Investigators of Saturday’s crash of a Blue Angels jet have completed the recovery and documentation process at the accident site, according to a news release from the air station.

All recovered parts will be transported to Pensacola, Fla., where a team from the Aviation Mishap Board will determine the cause of the crash that killed Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis. The Navy pilot was performing a stunt with the Blue Angels in the MCAS Air Show, when his F/A-18 Hornet crashed in a pond in a wooded area near Shanklin and Pine Grove roads.

BushWASHINGTON: Britain, the United States’ main wartime ally, informed Washington Tuesday that it will begin pulling its 7,100 troops out of Iraq, the White House said Tuesday.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair told US President George W.

Bush of the move in a telephone call early Tuesday, said White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe.

Word that Bush’s closest ally was pulling out came at a delicate time for the US leader, facing heavy opposition to his deployment of another 21,500 US soldiers nearly four years into the unpopular war.

HirvonenOSLO: Mikko Hirvonen of Finland dominated the first day of Norway car rally, which has been included in the world championship for the first time.

At the end of the first day of the car rally, Mikko Hirvonen left all drivers behind.

The drivers faced some difficulty in crossing the icy and tough roads but after crossing eight stages, Hirvonen came first with one hour, 24 minutes and 39 seconds.

Marcus Gronholm of Finland finished second with difference of 15.5 seconds. Sebastian Loeb of France ended third while former world champion Peter Solberg of Norway came fourth.
