calls via Internet absolutely freeLondon: A joint collaboration between mobile phone network ‘3′ and specialist Internet telephone operator Skype claims it will radically cut mobile phone costs.

The phone claims to offer free calls and instant text messages via an Internet connection.

The Skypephone comes for less than 50 pounds and will operate both as a conventional 3G mobile phone and a VOIP - Voice Over the Internet Protocol - handset.

The 3G handset will have the usual voice calls, Internet roaming, email and video downloads, which will use the conventional mast system. Separately, it will have a Skype button that will direct calls via a mast into the Internet telephony system of cables and satellite dishes, which is much cheaper to use. Sony to cut price of PlayStation 3TOKYO: Sony will cut the price of the standard 20-gigabyte hard disk drive PS3 by 10 percent to 44,980 yen (384 dollars) from October 17, ratcheting up the competition with its rivals ahead of the crucial year-end sales period.

It will also reduce the price of the 60-GB version to to 54,980 yen.
A new PS3 with a 40-GB hard disk drive will also be introduced in Japan on November 11 for 39,980 yen, Sony Computer Entertainment said in a statement.

The new version, which Sony is also launching this week in Europe, no longer plays games designed for the PlayStation 2. “We will be focusing on the PlayStation 3 software,” said Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Sousuke Kamai. Read the rest of this entry »
